With the house progressing towards being finished, the holidays, and everyday life, it seems our vacation in California for Thanksgiving was almost forgotten. Alas, that did not happen, for here is a little recap and some links to photos of our November adventures in wine country!
We headed down to a very, very wet wine country on Saturday, November 17th. No joke, it was raining harder than it had been here at home, we weren't sure going on vacation was a good idea at this point! Thankfully it didn't last long and besides, wine tastes good in any weather so we would have been fine even if it had not stopped raining! The first few nights were spent in Napa in close proximity to some of our favorite spots. After a wine tasting first full day on Sunday, we decided to break from wine tasting on Monday. It was a good day to take a break as it was our day to transition from Napa to Cloverdale and we had a stop for the "Wreck It Ralph" movie in Santa Rosa. Very cute movie, and a nice outing as it seemed we hadn't been to many movies recently.
On Tuesday we met up with David's parents, Dave and Linda, and did some wine tasting with them. Now that they are in the RV and primarily living in AZ, it was great to see them another time in the year than over the summer when they came up to visit. Wednesday brought more wine tasting in the local area including a stop at Francis Ford Coppola. He was there when we were! Too bad we could just see the back side of him while he sat outside, but still fun to know he was there! On Thanksgiving we met up with David's parents again and enjoyed hanging out with them again along with a yummy dinner.
Friday brought another unique opportunity for us. With a pilot in the family we were able to fly around wine country and into the Bay area. We went up with a local pilot who knew the area and where to go and David was the pilot in command. I was the official photographer and wow, we could not have picked a better day to be up in the air! We were especially in awe of our view of the Golden Gate bridge. We have been under it while on a boat, on it while in a car, and now over it in a plane! Future trips to wine country will also have more flights as there is still much more to see!
Saturday, our last full day of sunshine, oops, I mean vacation, took us on a little bit different adventure. We took a curvy, hilly, switchback filled road out to Lake Sonoma and spent a little time taking in the little beach area that it took us to. Again, a great day to be out doing something like that which we were very thankful for. After that we took a quick drive to the Cloverdale airport to take a peek at it and then a short walk into downtown Cloverdale before we began our prep for returning home.

We also found that the minions from Despicable Me were on vacation in wine country at the same time as us, so we invited them to join us for the week. Check out the minions adventures here.
