In Case you have been keeping track Day 5 was the hot air balloon ride and Day 6 was Thanksgiving! :)
We were off to taste more wine on Friday with an appointment at Cakebread Cellars 15 1:30pm. We arrived to the general area earlier than our appointment time so we made a quick stop into the Napa Wine Company tasting room. It was a beautiful place on the outside and inside was nice too - they already had a Christmas tree up and it smelled wonderful!
The tasting room represents a variety of winemakers on a rotating weekly schedule which is a great idea in theory, but that means you have to hope you like what they are offering on a particular week! This was, unfortunately, not our week. We didn't really care for anything we tasted (its not that it was bad, but just wasn't good enough for us to buy and bring home!) so we wrapped up there and headed to our much anticipated appointment at Cakebread Cellars:
A beautifully decorated winery, don't you think?? Not only was the decor beautiful but the wines were fantastic! It is rare that we like everything we taste at any particular winery and this place was the exception! We had chosen a red focus tasting but our wine host was not only enjoyable but gave us a chance to taste their popular chardonnay as well as the initial taste we received upon arrival of their sauvignon blanc. It was hard to decide what to bring home but we settled on:
We made a brief stop at St. Supery with the intent to taste but the tasting room offerings didn't really suit us so we decided to continue on our mission of finding wines we like. Next stop, V. Sattui Winery.
Wow, this place was interesting. It has a number of picnic benches outside, they were doing BBQ that day, and they have a food and gift shop as well as the tasting room inside. They have such a large volume of people come through that some of the wines were hooked up to wine taps. Truly bizarre. We did get to sample some tasty fudge and cheese in the food shop and a lot of people were buying items to take outside and eat. This place has it figured out in terms of a hot tourist spot! The wines were okay but the people watching was fantastic! :)
After that we were off once again to Domaine Carneros. We just can't get enough of this place! In fact, if it was feasible we would buy a bottle of sparkling wine this big:
It would be difficult to get home though, so we decided it was best to leave the large bottles there. Once back at our place we got to dine on our Thanksgiving leftovers for dinner and begin thinking about the upcoming end to our trip.
