A different kind of Thanksgiving

After our hot air balloon ride we decided to have a relaxing day where we didn't go anywhere or do anything in particular, it was really quite nice!  We started a new tradition on Thanksgiving morning - our own 5k Turkey Trot!  Essentially we went to the fitness room and ran 3.1 miles on the treadmill, but it was sure a great feeling to not only complete the Turkey Trot but to also feel like we did a good workout before our Thanksgiving meal!

We had a very sweet offer from David's friend, Anne, to join her and her family in Sunnyvale for Thanksgiving.  It is about a 1.5 hour drive from Napa so it was not only going to be a meal with a friend but also an adventure.  It was odd on our drive down to be driving in the sunshine.  That is not the usual weather back home on Thanksgiving so it definitely felt like a different kind of day...plus I wearing short sleeves...when has that been the case??  :)

Upon arriving at our Thanksgiving destination we were warmly greeted and welcomed into their home.  It was Anne, her parents, and her future brother-in-law and us.  Unfortunately Anne's sister was away for work which allowed us to talk about her behind her back (not really, but there were some funny conversations about her work for the week!).  While Thanksgiving was taking place in another state with a different family, it really felt a lot like Thanksgiving when I was growing up.  We enjoyed a delicious meal, went for a walk afterward and then had some great pie.  As a child I detested the walk after eating but as I have become older (and hopefully wiser!) I see the value in moving around and not just sitting all afternoon!

After Anne's mom kindly packaged up leftovers for us to take back, we were off on our return trip.  This is where the adventure really began!  After the GPS was not entirely clear on which direction to go at a critical point, we found ourselves heading into the backed up lineup of cars waiting to pay their tolls for the Bay Bridge.  Ruh roh, we hadn't planned to make that turn!  So we worked our way up to the toll booth, payed our $6 and across the bridge we started to go.  We found that we could turn around on Treasure Island so we exited there and after looping around a bit found a safe (and legal) place to u-turn.  In doing so we got a few great pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge and of San Francsico:



We did eventually make it back to our place but it was a great day all the same!
