Tuesday/Day 4 of our Winery Tour:
This was our most lazy morning of vacation so far. You see, we got a phone call at 4:15 in the morning. It wasn't work calling David, it wasn't a family emergency, it was actually a call we were anticipating would come. It was the call to cancel our hot air balloon ride this morning. Bummer for us, but we knew it was going to happen given the weather forecast for the day. We asked for a reschedule for tomorrow and are hoping we don't get the dreaded cancellation phone call but that we get to go and enjoy a wonderful new experience.
After that early call we definitely needed more sleep, so we slept in, had some breakfast and finally got our day going around 11am. This time our first stop was the Napa Valley General Store as we were on the hunt for some dark chocolate truffles that are made here in Napa that we had tasted the other day. No truffles to be found but they did have some chocolate bars by the same company, so we picked up a few of those to see how they fit the bill. No sampling has been done yet but I am sure we'll break into them before too long. Today's lunch was super extravagent, we went to In 'N Out Burger!! It was good, but we don't need to go again!
First winery stop of the day was Turnbull Wine Cellars. Along with their wines they were sampling a variety of fancy mustards but since neither of us care of mustard we stuck with tasting the wines! They had some good stuff that we should be able to get a hold of at home which is a welcome change since a majority of the wineries maybe distribute one or two of their wines, if any, and the rest are only sold through their winery. Next we went to Sequoia
Grove and really enjoyed our experience there. They have a great "Rebellious Red" that we just had to get our hands on and we'll also keep our eyes out for their Cabernet at home.
Next stop was Peju Province Winery which just didn't do anything for us so onto the next winery! Beaulieu Vineyard was just what we needed next! Great wine hosts and a wonderful Sangiovese!
Did you think we were done tasting for the day? No way, jose! It was a banner day of wine tasting for us and we made one last stop at Domaine Carneros for a glass of sparkling wine along with some cheese and dried fruits. We are usually good for about three winery stops a day so hitting five today was a big deal! After a second visit to Ristorante La Strada for some more great Italian food, we called it a day with the Biggest Loser and some prep for our (cross your fingers!) hot air balloon ride in the early morning. We will obviously report on the results, hopefully with great stories and pictures from our trip!
Total bottles purchased today = 6, trip total = 20!
