Monday/Day 3 of our Winery Tour:
We started our day off right with a workout before breakfast (helps make you feel less guilty during wine tasting later in the day!). After taking care of a few things in Napa we checked out the Oxbow Public Market and then had a good BBQ lunch at the Red Rock Back Door BBQ. Then it was time to get to the wine tasting.
First stop was another one of our favorites, Rutherford Ranch. It was a great stop, as anticipated, and we didn't change our opinion about their wines since our last visit! Next we made a random stop at the Frank Family Vineyards. We didn't love what they had to offer but that is okay, we won't love everything we taste! Next up, Trinchero Napa Valley. They not only had a very beautiful driveway to their tasting room, but a wine we really liked as well. Win, win for us for sure! And this was also where we came to know the title of this post. We were having a nice chat with Paul, our knowledgeable wine host, and asked about the gorgeous trees lining their driveway. They are apparently fruitless pear trees, but who cares, they looked great. Then Paul tells us that a woman was recently in the tasting room that was new to wine and asking a lot of questions when the question came about "what are those little trees out there?" Paul asked her "which trees do you mean?" She pointed outside and said "those cute little trees in rows." Oh boy, Paul then had the difficult job of sharing with her that those were the grape vines that produced the grapes for the wines she was tasting! :)
We did make one last wine stop for the day, at Grgich Hills Estate. Surprisingly enough, we found that we really enjoyed their Zinfandel. Not a typical one for us so that was a pleasant change of pace and worthwhile stop! After a quick stop at the store we headed back "home," had some dinner, watched Chuck and just plain relaxed.
Total bottles purchased today = 5, trip total = 14!
