Connecting with nature...kind of!

We are taking on a new kind of adventure this spring/summer/fall...the Underwood-Wyatt vegetable and herb garden! My mom had been talking about a garden and David and I were wishing we could grow some stuff - put the two ideas together and TADA, the garden at my parents house came to life! Well, not quite, there was some labor involved! First my dad built us the raised garden bed frames, then we had to figure out where they should be placed in the back yard. After that we situated some lining along the bottom of each to help keep weeds out and the good stuff in! Then the really hard labor came to be...the dirt mixture that had been delivered had to be dropped off by the side of the driveway...the garden boxes are in the far back corner of the back yard! So dirt was shoveled, wheeled to the boxes and then spread around until each of the boxes were full!
We will be adding a fourth box which will hopefully make its debut soon, but we at least got the rest started. There were quite a few seeds planted but also some starts to help get things moving along in our garden. We all thought it was great that things were growing on the very first day!!! :)
Here is the view of the boxes once we got everything planted. If all goes as planned we will have carrots, green onions, sugar snap peas, green beans, broccoli, a variety of herbs, some zucchini, a few other varieties of squash (like crooked neck yellow and butternut), and some brussel sprouts. The additional box will hopefully grow us some tasty corn and maybe even some pumpkins for the fall!

The garden reports for the first week have been pretty much the same every day - "Mother Nature is watering for us!" We will continue to keep on eye on things and see how things start to grow and become real food for us to eat!!!!
