The first day of distance driving is done. We made it to Portland right around 12pm and met up with Kelly, one of my (Heather's) good friends from college. Kelly guided us to a great place called Grand Central Baking Company for lunch where we were able to sit down, have a good sandwich and catch up on the latest happenings. It was a great pit stop in the day and unfortunately for Kelly, she had to go back to work, and we continued on our way.
David did a majority of the driving today and lucky for him he had mostly straight roads. Admittedly he did have a bit more traffic and rain than when I drove, but somehow I managed to get the majority of the curvy roads. The curious thing about this is that it was the same deal when we drove to and from Spokane...I think I have been set up each time!
Aside from a minor detour in Vancouver compliments of the GPS (supposedly to avoid heavy traffic, but it only added to our time) there wasn't too much excitement. Seeing Kelly was indeed the highlight of the day! The funniest part of the day was that on three separate occasions the car was apparently in the path of some kamikaze birds. They either know a good car when they see one or they were having suicidal tendencies. If it really is the latter, Fanny would have liked to provide some counseling to them about what they should do and how it could benefit her! Just kidding!
Now we are going to get ourselves situated for the evening and watch the Grey's Anatomy season finale from last night. We hope that Saturday's drive has much less rain and hopefully a lot less curves! :) ~Heather
