It has been an adventure filled day for us and thankfully also very tasty! It was a bit couldy in the morning but then it became clear blue skies with a high of about 70 degrees. It was perfect for our adventures! The day began with a drive to Fairfield, home of the Jelly Belly Visitor Center and Tour Facility! Yummy stuff there and also very interesting. If you have ever seen the "Unwrapped" show on the Food Network where they take you through and show you how the candy is made, flavored, polished, and packaged, well, then you pretty much have been on this tour, except for the cute hats and strong sugar smells!
After a quick bite to eat we were off to St. Helena (drop the "h" to pronounce it like the locals) for some wine tasting. Enough of this candy business we are here for the wine! First stop was at Robert Mondavi and not only did we get to taste some nice wine we also got to enjoy the grounds of the winery while tasting.
Next we went to Beringer where we had signed up to do a reserve tasting in the cellar. What a great experience, we highly recommend it to everyone that likes wine! Karen was very knowledgeable and funny, as were our fellow reserve tasters which also made for a great experience. Of course I (Heather) fell in love with a $115 dollar of cabernet sauvignon, but that is beside the point, the wine stayed behind when we left.
We made a stop at Folie a Deux after Beringer and this was highly anticipated because I have come to love the Menage a Trois Red that they produce. Unfortunately the red blend is apparently the only thing I love as I was not a fan of anything else we tasted. Big bummer, but now I know not to spend my money on anything other than the red blend!
Last, but not least, we made it to Domaine Carneros. Each time we have driven by (on the way to other wineries/events) I have been enamored by this chateau and couldn't wait to be on their grounds. It lived up to the expectations and delivered some wonderful sparkling wines along with some great cheese that we sat outside to enjoy. After admiring the chateau, the grounds, and the fake sheep across the street, we did make the trek back to our hotel for some dinner and some blogging.
